Fog, Fireworks and Forest Magic Await This Weekend

Leicestershire is pulling out all the stops this Friday to Sunday, so gather the family and get planning.

Friday evening calls for something a little grown-up, and the George Hill Festival of Wines at Loughborough Grammar School delivers in style. Between 6pm and 9pm on Friday 30th October, you can sip and savour your choice from over 200 wines in one gloriously convivial evening. If you prefer your Friday with a soundtrack, folk-rock favourite Grace Petrie brings her sharp, heartfelt songwriting to a Leicestershire stage on the same night — a warm, stirring performance that will stay with you long after the last chord fades. Saturday is Halloween, and Conkers in Moira is ready to make it remarkable. The Halloween Forest Light Walk transforms the woodland into a glowing, enchanted spectacle after dark, with festivities that delight younger visitors and older ones equally. It is the kind of evening that turns a chilly October night into something genuinely special, so book ahead and wrap up well. Meanwhile, the Walking Through Time exhibition opens on Saturday too, celebrating fifty years of Leicestershire Fieldworkers and the extraordinary archaeology they have uncovered across the county. Keep Sunday free for a little forward-looking excitement, because Twinlakes Park near Melton Mowbray is gearing up for its spectacular Fireworks event on 3rd November — close enough to start planning now and well worth securing tickets for. There is also a programme of Guided Walks on Saturday 31st, led by knowledgeable guides around a beautiful local country park, perfect for families who want to stretch their legs and learn something fascinating along the way without straying far from home. When it comes to places to simply turn up and explore, Leicestershire has you well covered. Beacon Hill Country Park near Loughborough rewards a wander with Bronze Age earthworks, a rhododendron labyrinth, chainsaw sculptures and a welcome café at the end of it all. For a dose of proper history, Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre near Market Bosworth brings the drama of 1485 vividly to life through interactive displays and outdoor experiences the whole family can enjoy together. And Market Bosworth Country Park, with its towering redwoods and Japanese maples deepening into autumn colour, offers one of the most quietly beautiful walks in the county right now. The forecast is atmospheric rather than fierce — expect fog and overcast skies across the weekend, with temperatures ranging from around six to thirteen degrees. It is classic autumn Leicestershire weather that makes a thermos of tea feel like a very sensible accessory. Layer up, pack your waterproofs as a precaution, and lean into the season. There is a wonderful weekend waiting for you across this county, and all it needs is a little planning today.
